Jammu: MLA Satish K. Sharma Calls for Urgent SSP Post in Billawar to Strengthen Security and Infrastructure”
Billawar, Jammu & Kashmir – March 17, 2025: In response to escalating security concerns and the growing threat of terrorism in the hilly region of Billawar Constituency, MLA Satish K. Sharma has formally submitted a memorandum to the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, urging the immediate establishment of an additional Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) post.
The memorandum highlights the alarming rise in terrorism-related incidents, including three civilian killings in Billawar Constituency, which have instilled fear among the local populace. Given the region’s challenging terrain and the significant distance of approximately 100 km from the district headquarters, law enforcement faces severe delays in responding to security threats. The proposed SSP post aims to bridge this gap by ensuring rapid response, proactive policing, and a reinforced security infrastructure.
Speaking on the matter, MLA Satish K. Sharma emphasized, “The security and well-being of the people of Billawar are of utmost priority. The establishment of an additional SSP post will not only enhance intelligence gathering and counterterrorism operations but will also restore public confidence and pave the way for economic stability.”
Infrastructure and Healthcare Development Demands Raised
In a parallel memorandum, MLA Sharma has also called for urgent intervention in critical infrastructure and healthcare development in Billawar Constituency. Notable demands include:
Upgradation and Four-Laning of Dhar-Udhampur Road: A strategic necessity for defense operations and regional connectivity, awaiting approval at the highest level.
Construction of a Road from Gujjar Basti to Chew via Dehota-Thingen-Hanoq-Madoon: Essential for economic development and security, connecting over eight panchayats currently deprived of basic road access.
Widening of Billawar to Katli Road: To reduce accidents and improve inter-constituency connectivity.
New Primary Health Center (PHC) in Katli: Serving over 30,000 residents with essential healthcare services.
Upgradation of Community Health Center (CHC), Billawar: To include a Blood Bank, advanced diagnostic tools, a fully functional Operation Theatre, a Jan Aushadhi Kendra, and a Dialysis Unit.
MLA Sharma has urged the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor to take up these matters with the Government of Bharat to expedite approvals and funding. “Timely intervention in these areas will not only strengthen security but also drive economic growth and improve the overall quality of life for the people of Billawar,” he stated.
The proposed measures are expected to play a transformative role in ensuring safety, stability, and sustainable development in the region. The people of Billawar now await swift action from the administration to address these pressing concerns.
The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor has given full assurance to resolve the issues at the earliest.
