Four more Covid-19 patients succumbed to the deadly disease in Kashmir Valley on Friday, taking the fatality count across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to 121.
While three deaths were reported from Chest Diseases hospital, another was confirmed by the authorities at the SMHS hospital here.
An 80-year-old Covid-19 positive patient from Rajbagh Srinagar died at around 12:30 am at SMHS hospital, the officials said.
They said the octogenarian was admitted to the hospital on Thursday and had bilateral pneumonia and heart ailments.
Earlier, a 70-year-old male patient from Baramulla died at CD hospital, the officials said.
They said the patient, who was shifted to the hospital on Thursday, was suffering from pneumonia, hypertension, diabetes and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Late evening, two more deaths were reported from the CD hospital. Among them was an 80-year-old from Chattabal areas of Srinagar and a patient from Tarzoo Sopore.
“The septuagenarian was admitted on June 29. He was having COPD and hypertension,” CD hospital, Medical Superintendent Dr Salim Tak said.
With the four deaths today, 121 people so far have succumbed to the virus in J&K— 107 from the Valley and 14 from Jammu division.
Srinagar, with 29 deaths tops the list of Covid-19 fatalities followed by 20 in Baramulla, 16 in Kulgam, 13 in Shopian, nine each in Anantnag & Budgam, eight in Jammu, six in Kupwara, four in Pulwama, two in Doda and one each in Bandipora, Udhampur, Kathua, Poonch and Rajouri districts. Meanwhile Coronavirus cases on Friday crossed 8000 mark in Jammu and Kashmir as 170 more people, including 57 travellers, 10 Beacon personnel and five uniformed men, taking the number of people infected across the Union Territory to 8019.
“170 new Covid-19 cases were detected in J&K. While 128 of them are from Kashmir, 42 are from Jammu,” the officials said.
Among fresh cases, 41 cases were reported from Srinagar followed by 24 each from Kupwara, 21 each from Anantnag & Baramulla, 13 from Jammu, 10 from Kathua, eight from Ganderbal, six from Samba, five each from Budgam & Kulgam, three each from Ramban, Doda & Rajouri, two each from Bandipora, Kishtwar & Udhampur and one from Shopian, they said.
According to officials, 101 more patients recovered and were discharged from different hospitals.
The cases detected on Friday included 57 people who had returned to J&K recently.
Besides it, 10 personnel from 108 RCC Trehgam in Kupwara, four CRPF troopers, a policeman from District Police Lines Baramulla and two babies and a doctor also tested positive for coronavirus today.
The number of confirmed cases has now reached 8,019 out of which 6,327 are in Kashmir, while 1,692 are in Jammu, the officials said.
There are 2,825 active cases of the coronavirus disease in J&K — 2,401 in Kashmir and 424 in Jammu — and 5,075 (3,821 from Kashmir and 1,254 from Jammu) patients have recovered, according to officials.
The J&K has witnessed 121 Covid-19 deaths (107 from Kashmir, 14 from Jammu) so far.
