A mother and daughter were killed and one person was injured when a house collapsed in a sudden landslide on Friday in Bafliyaz village of Surankote area of Poonch district. The injured were referred to Government Medical College, Rajouri after being provided first aid at Surankot Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.
Police said that the incident occurred on Friday morning. Actually this accident happened near the place where work on Rajouri-Surankote road project was going on. It is being told that there was a sudden landslide and on sight the debris engulfed the house of Mohammad Latif. Latif’s house collapsed like a pack of cards due to the landslide. When this house collapsed, there were three people inside it.
Local people reached there soon after the house collapsed. Meanwhile, army personnel also reached the village to join the rescue operation. He started removing the debris of the house. One after the other, the three people who were buried in the house were pulled out. The trio were immediately rushed to the Upazila Hospital, Surankot where doctors declared Naseem Akhtar (34), wife Mohammad Latif and his daughter Rubina Akhtar (09) brought dead.
Mohammad Latif was still breathing but his condition was also critical. After providing first aid, the doctors immediately sent Latif to the Government Medical College, Rajouri. At present he is undergoing treatment there. On the other hand, there is a wave of mourning in Surankote after hearing the news of the death of Latif’s wife and daughter. The district administration has also expressed its concern over the incident.
At the same time, the police has registered a case in this regard. A police official said the bodies would be handed over to other relatives after conducting post-mortem of the mother and daughter.
