SKUAST-J Team conducts ‘Village Visit & Revisit’ programme at Patti Samba

JAMMU, Feb 02: Scientists of SKUAST -Jammu under the overall guidance and supervision of Prof J P Sharma Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu visited village Patti in Vijaypurblock, of district Samba under ‘Village Visit and Revisit’ programme. On the occasion, scientists interacted with farming community and listened to their various problems. Farmers of area expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor, Prof J. P. Sharma, who in a short span of six months had created a very strong linkage between farming community, University & allied departments. The programme started with a brief introduction of entire team of scientists by DrVinod Gupta, Team coordinator and Senior Scientist & Head KVK Samba. He welcomed all farmers and discussed objectives and background of the programme. The major focus of his discussion was to establish a strong bondage between farming community and Scientists of the University. In his address, he focuses on the group approach of farmers by forming Farmer Producer Organisations to solve their problems. Dr Gupta also highlighted the main points, its significance and importance of new kissan bills which were passed by the Govt of India. Dr. Sanjay Khajuria, Agro forestry expert, advised the farmers to grow more and more trees to increase the green cover in the Kandi area .For which, he promised to provide good saplings in the coming monsoon season. He also suggested growing forage crops as well as fodder trees like Dhaman and Kachnar to meet out the fodder problem during the lean period.He also suggested the farmers to come forward for the cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants medicinal plants in the interspaces of orchards as well as on the waste lands forextra income, soil & water conservation. Dr.Uma Shankar, Entomology expert discussed in detail about the major  rabi insect pests and their control through integrated pest management. Dr.A.K.Pandey expert in Veterinary Gynaeadvised the farmers to adopt various technologies related to the milch animals.Dr.AnkurRastugi elaborated in detail about the role of mineral mixture and balanced ration in day to day life of the animals.He also showscaused his newly developed APP –Dudharoo to the farmers for the benefit of their animals.Dr.B.Nandan Expert in Agronomy advised the  farmers to follow the various agronomical practices for the rabi crops for better yield. The main focus of his discussion was on weed management.

Dr.DeepjiBhat expert in fruit science discussed in detail about the management of fruit plants for better yield.Dr.Bhat also invited the farmers to visit division of fruit science at Chatha Campus for quality planting material of fruit plants. Dr.Monika Sood,expert in PHT suggested the farmers to go for various post-harvest measures in the horticultural crops for earning higher income .On this occasion, more than 200 healthy saplings of mulberry were also distributed among the progressive farmers. In the end, IttiSharma, Sarpanchpanchysthalqa Patti thanked all the team members for their valuable suggestions.
