Drug peddlers arrested with poppy straw by Jammu police

Jammu and Kashmir police on Saturday arrested three drug peddlers with contraband of poppy straw in Jhajjar Kotli here on city outskirts.

Police spokesman here said that a police team of Jhajjar Kotli led by SHO, Inspector Rajesh Khajuria, apprehended three drug peddlers and seized 32.960 kg of poppy straw from their possession.

While on duty at naka Suketar, the police team stopped a truck for checking and during inspection of the documents, it was found that the driver had affixed a forged number plate on the vehicle, he said.
Finding something amiss the police searched the entire truck and found 32.960  kg of poppy straw like substance hidden in the truck concealed in a special designed cavity inside the vehicle.

The driver identified as Amanpreet Singh of Kandial Tehsil Batala, District Gurdaspur, along with others identified as Hira Singh of Singhwala, Gurdaspur and Lovepreet Balagan, Gurdaspur, Punjab were arrested on the spot.
A case under NDPS Act was registered and investigation have been started.
