Four persons, including three women, died of COVID-19 in Kashmir valley on Saturday, taking the death toll due to the infection in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to 80.
With these deaths, 44 people have lost their lives due to infection in 16 days, and 65 people in 32 day in J&K, where the COVID-19 positive cases have surpassed 5600-mark. As many as four persons — including a 15-day-old infant, a 79-year-old man from Srinagar and 80-year-old man from Baramulla, 80-year-old man from Shopian — died due to the disease on Friday.
Official sources said that a 40-year-old woman, a resident of Safakadal in Srinagar, was referred from SHMS hospital to Chest Disease Hospital after she tested positive for COVID-19 on June 14. “The woman was initially undergoing treatment for heart disease, besides diabetes,” they said.
They said the woman development complications and died on Saturday morning.
They said an 80-year-old woman, a resident of Khudwani in Kulgam, was admitted to SHMS hospital on Thursday for kidney and chest problem. “The swab test of the woman came positive hours after she passes away in the hospital today,” they said.
They said another woman from Pulwama was admitted to S K Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) early this week after she tested positive for COVID-19. “The patient, who was referred from SHMS to SKIMS, was suffering from meningioma (brain tumor) with obstructive sleep apnea (a disorder which causes breathing to repeatedly stop and start during sleep),” they said.
They said the woman died early in the morning on Saturday after she suffered a massive heart attack.
They said a 65-year-old man, a resident of Budgam, who was admitted to SKIMS on Friday, was tested positive for COVID-19 on the same day. “The patient died at around 0130 hrs on Saturday,” they said, adding the patient was suffering from bilateral Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP).
With these fatalities, the death toll has risen to 19 in Srinagar, which is the worst affected district in terms of causalities due to the disease in the UT. The toll has risen to 13 in Baramulla. Shopian stands at number three with 10 deaths, followed by Kulgam with nine fatalities. Six people have lost their lives due to the infection in Budgam, while five each in Anantnag and Kupwara.
Ten districts of Jammu have reported nine fatalities while 71 people have lost their lived due to COVID-19 in ten districts of Kashmir.
Eight people — including six from Kashmir and two from Jammu — died due to COVID-19 on Wednesday and Thursday. Four people from Kashmir valley died due to COVID-19 in the first two days of this week. Earlier on June 14, two persons, including an 85-year-old man from Kashmir and a 69-year-old man from Jammu, died due to COVID-19.
On June 12, border district of Rajouri recorded the first COVID-19 fatality with 65-year-old man dying due to the infection at Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu. A 62-year-old woman, a resident of Kulgam, died due to COVID-19 in a hospital in this summer capital on June 11.
Five people — including two 70-year-old men, 52-year-old auto-driver and 31-year-old man — died due to COVID-19 on June 9 in Kashmir. On June 8, Kashmir valley recorded five deaths, including that of a CRPF jawan, due to COVID-19. The deceased included the 40-year-old CRPF jawan from Uttar Pradesh, 55-year-old man from Pampore, 65-year-old man from Handwara, 35-year-old man from Srinagar and 70-year-old man from Baramulla.
A non-local tailor, a resident of Kolkata, was tested positive for COVID-19 on June 7, hours after he died in a local hospital in Srinagar. Three people, including three persons from Kashmir and 62-year-old woman from Jammu, died due to COVID-19 on June 6.

A 60-year-old man from Srinagar died due to COVID-19 at a hospital in this summer capital on June 4. An 86-year-old man from north Kashmir district of Baramulla tested positive for COVID-19, five days after he passed away in a health centre in the valley on June 3. Five persons, including four from Kashmir and one from Jammu, died due to COVID-19 in the UT on June 1.
