Commissioner Secretary reviews Jal Jeevan Mission, development projects in Rajouri

5 blocks to get tap water connection by June, 2020

 Commissioner Secretary, PHE and I&FC, Ajeet Kumar Sahu, today convened an officers meeting to review implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission besides assessing progress on PHE projects and Irrigation and Flood Control works in Rajouri district.

District Development Commissioner Rajouri, Mohammad Nazir Sheikh, Chief Engineers PHE and I&FC, Superintending Engineer Hydraulic Circle Rajouri, Executive Engineers PHE Rajouri Division and PHE Nowshera Division, Assistant Commissioner Development and other concerned officers attended the meeting.

DDC, while addressing the meeting, said that efforts are being made to tap the available water resources to meet the requirements of the drinking water in the district.

While reviewing the languishing projects of PHE(Civil), Sahu was informed that there are 61 schemes of PHE (Civil) being executed under languishing projects in the district including 29 in Rajouri division and 32 in Nowshera division, of which, work on 25 schemes in Rajouri and 25 in Nowshera division is in progress.

Under PHE (Mechanical), it was highlighted that there are 43 schemes being executed under languishing project scheme, of which, 32 have been completed and the work on rest shall start after procurement of machinery. Under I&FC, there are 13 schemes, of which, 3 are complete and the work on the rest is in different phases of execution.

Regarding PHE schemes under NABARD, it was informed that there are 13 schemes being executed in the district including 7 in Rajouri division and 6 in Nowshera division, of which 3 schemes have been completed including 2 in Nowshera division and 1 Rajouri division.

It was informed that work on ANS irrigation canal, being constructed at Budhal, is expected to be completed by January, 2020.

Sahu, while taking stock of Jal Jeevan Mission in the district, informed that Rajouri district shall be covered in three phases under the Mission. Under first phase of JJM, all the households of 5 blocks of the district including Thanamandi, Budhal New, Lamberi, Seri and Qila Darhal would be covered with 100% tap water connection by the end of June, 2020. In this regard, he asked the concerned officers to formulate the DPRs and submit the same by or before 31st December, 2019.

Commissioner Secretary also set 15 March, 2020 as deadline for completion of work on languishing schemes of PHE (Civil) in Rajouri Division and Nowshera Division.

Sahu further said that in order to provide piped water to all households in Jammu & Kashmir under Jal Jeevan Mission, the Government has set a deadline of 2022 which is two years prior to the target set by the Union Government for the rest of the country.

He urged upon the concerned to step up their efforts and expedite Aadhaar seeding to new and existing water connections to achieve the set targets.
