DC Kulgam chairs monthly District-Level NCORD meeting, Departments instructed to strengthen IEC activities for greater public awareness and community engagement

KULGAM, JANUARY 29: The monthly meeting of the District-Level Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) Committee was held today under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan, to review measures aimed at curbing substance abuse and narcotic trafficking in the district.

The meeting was attended by ADC Kulgam, Viqar Ahmed Giri, Tehsildars, ARTO, DySP, and other members of the NCORD Committee.

During the meeting, the DC reviewed the implementation of decisions taken in previous NCORD meetings and assessed the actions initiated by enforcement agencies to tackle the drug menace.

It was informed that during the current month, 7 drug peddlers were arrested and 7 FIRs registered.

The DC also reviewed activities carried out under the second phase of the IEC (Information, Education and Communication) campaign, aimed at strengthening awareness and enhancing community participation in the fight against drug abuse.

The meeting was informed that the district has already achieved 100% installation of CCTV cameras by medical shops.

Additionally, 77 inspections were conducted across pharmacies during December, resulting in four medical shops being disallowed/suspended for violations related to the maintenance of sale and purchase records.

The DC directed all stakeholders to continue and intensify the second phase of the IEC campaign to further spread awareness about the ill effects of drug abuse and strengthen community participation in prevention efforts.

He stressed the need for close inter-departmental coordination to ensure effective eradication of the drug menace from the district.

During the meeting the DC also reviewed status of cancellation of driving licenses involved in NDPS and bovine smuggling cases.

He instructed the concerned authorities to expedite the cancellation of such licenses and ensure suspension of Registration Certificates (RCs) of all vehicles involved in illegal activities.
