Mother and four-year-old innocent died in LPG cylinder explosion in Poonch’s Surankote

Poonch: A mother and a four-year-old child have died in a painful accident on Thursday in Poonch district of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to information, 40-year-old Hamida Begum, a resident of Chandimarh village of Surankote in Poonch district, was cooking food on the stove at her house when a sudden gas leak in an LPG cylinder caught fire. Due to leakage of gas, the fire spread throughout the house. Before the people present in the house were able to recover, there was a loud explosion and due to its grip, Hamida Begum and her four-year-old son Aqib Mohammad were badly burnt and died due to this.

Soon after the incident, local people joined the rescue operation. People living nearby started throwing water to extinguish the fire, but by then the entire house had collapsed due to the explosion of the LPG cylinder.

Three other people present in the house at the time of the accident, including the husband of the deceased Hamida Begum and her two other children, escaped safely. The explosion of the LPG cylinder was so intense that 12 cattle tied outside the house also died due to its grip. Surankot DSP Tanveer Jilani immediately reached the spot with his team after hearing the news of the incident. The police have registered a case in this context and started investigation.
