Single-day jump of 60,975 COVID-19 cases pushes India’s tally to 31.67 lakh; death toll climbs to 58,390

India’s coronavirus count jumped to over 31 lakh on Tuesday after the country reported 60,975 fresh cases in a span of 24 hours. The total number of coronavirus infections in the country has now climbed to 31,67,324.

 

Of the total cases, 24,04,584 have been successfully treated while one case has been migrated from the country. There are 7,04,348 active cases of COVID-19 in India and all are under medical supervision.

The death toll has increased to 58,390 in the country with 848 more persons succumbing to the viral infection in the last 24 hours, according to the latest data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

“India’s COVID19 case tally crosses 31 lakh mark with 60,975 fresh cases and 848 deaths in the last 24 hours. The COVID-19 case tally in the country rises to 31,67,324 including 7,04,348 active cases, 24,04,585 cured/discharged/migrated and 58,390 deaths,” said the ministry.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a cumulative total of 3,68,27,520 samples have been tested so far, of which 9,25,383 samples were tested on Monday.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst-affected state by the coronavirus outbreak in the country with COVID-19 tally inching towards seven lakh mark. The total number of positive cases in the state has climbed to 6,70,9993 and 22,465 deaths, according to the ministry.

Tamil Nadu has become the second-worst hit in the country, followed by Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Delhi.

India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7.

‘India’s COVID-19 recovery rate best in the world’

Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan had on Saturday said that India has the best COVID-19 recovery rate in the world with having 75 per cent patients successfully recovered from the deadly infection.

“As far as COVID19 numbers are concerned, our fatality rate (1.87 per cent) is really low and we have the best recovery rate (75 per cent) in the world. We have around 1500 testing labs now. It is a great achievement in itself,”  he had said.

He also exuded confidence over India’s efforts in developing a COVID-19 vaccine and said that country’s scientists are working very hard to develop a vaccine and provide it to the world.
