As many as 15 people — including 14 from Kashmir and one from Jammu — died due to COVID-19 since late Tuesday evening, taking the total death toll due to the infection in the Union Territory of J&K to 348.
With these deaths, 313 people have lost their lives due to COVID-19 in 55 days, and 333 people in 69 day in J&K, where 540 new positive cases were detected on Wednesday, taking the total number of infected persons to 19,419. Srinagar continues to top the chart of fresh cases even as 203 more persons in this summer capital testing positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday.
Official sources said that a 65-year-old woman, a resident of Mattan in Anantnag, was admitted to S K Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) for pneumonia and some other ailments. “The woman, who was tested positive for COVID-19, died in the hospital on Wednesday morning,” they said.
They said a 75-year-old COVID-19 positive man, a resident of Wazirbagh in Srinagar, died at SHMS hospital this morning. “The patient, who was admitted to the hospital on Monday, was suffering from Community Acquired Pneumonia (CAP),” they said.
Another patient, a 52-year-old woman from Budgam also died at SHMS hospital on Wednesday morning. “The woman, who had tested positive for COVID-19, was suffering from Community Acquired Pneumonia (CAP),” they added.
In Jammu, a 79-year-old man, a resident of Talab Tillo, who was admitted to Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu after testing positive for COVID-19 on Monday, died late on Monday night.
They said a 50-year-old man, a resident of Pahalgam in Anantnag, who was admitted to SHMS hospital on Monday for bilateral pneumonia, died at the hospital late on Tuesday night. “The swab test of the patient came positive hours after his death,” they said.
A Srinagar resident, a 62-year-old man from Zainakadal, was admitted to a tertiary care hospital on Monday for bilateral pneumonia. “The patient, who tested positive for COVID-19, died at the hospital late last night,” they said.
They said a 60-year-old woman, a resident of Rainawari in Srinagar, died on Tuesday afternoon hours after she was admitted to SKIMS with sepsis. “The woman tested positive for COVID-19 later,” they said.
“A 70-year-old man, a resident of Sumbal in Bandipora, admitted to SMHS Hospital on July 24 following a stroke died on Tuesday evening. “The patient had tested positive for COVID-19,” they added.
They said seven more people — including two from Srinagar, three from Baramulla, one each from Anantnag and Bandipora lost their lives due to the virus on Wednesday.
With these fatalities, the death toll due to COVID-19 has risen to 103 in Srinagar which is the worst affected district in J&K in terms of causalities, followed by Baramulla with 67 deaths. The number has swelled to 24 in Anantnag and 25 in Budgam. As many as 20 people each have lost their lives to the disease in Shopian and Kupwara while 19 deaths were reported in Pulwama.
The number of deaths stands at 27 in Kulgam. Twelve people have lost their lives in Bandipora. Ganderbal district recorded sixth death due to COVID-19 on July 24. The number has swelled to 16 in Jammu while Ramban reported its first COVID-19 related death on Tuesday.
Ten districts of Jammu have reported 24 fatalities while 324 people have lost their lived due to COVID-19 in ten districts of Kashmir.
As many as 61 people, including 57 from Kashmir and four from Jammu, lost their lives due to COVID-19 during last week.
Sixty five people lost their lives between July 13 and July 19 due to COVID-19 in J&K. As many as 48 patients — including 10 persons from Baramulla, 12 from Srinagar, six from Kulgam, three from Anantnag, Kupwara and Budgam, Jammu region, two each from Shopian and Ganderbal, one patient each from Pulwama, Bandipora and a BSF jawan — died due to COVID-19 between July 6 and July 12.
As many as 41 people — including nine from Srinagar, 10 from Baramulla, five each from Anantnag, three from Kulgam, Budgam and Shopian, two each from Kupwara and Bandipora, one each from Jammu and Ganderbal — died due to COVID-19 between June 29 and July 5.
