
Chief Principal Census Officer (CPCO), Amit Sharma who is also Director Census Operations, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, today addressed a press conference at Dak Bungalow Baramulla regarding the Census of India 2027.
During the press conference, the CPCO highlighted the significance of the Census as the largest administrative and statistical exercise in the country and emphasized its vital role in planning, governance and socio-economic development. He briefed media representatives about the objectives, methodology and key features of Census 2027.
He informed that the Census will be conducted in a systematic and scientific manner through designated enumerators and supervisors. He explained various aspects of the enumeration process, including household listing, collection of demographic and socio-economic data, use of digital technology and measures being adopted to ensure accuracy, transparency and confidentiality of information collected during the exercise.
Amit Sharma informed that for any query or clarification related to Census 2027 in the district, citizens can contact the dedicated toll-free helpline number 1855.
The CPCO appealed to the public to extend full cooperation to census officials and provide accurate information during the enumeration process. He stated that active public participation is essential for generating reliable data that forms the foundation for informed policymaking and development planning.
Emphasizing the role of the media, he urged media persons to create widespread awareness about Census 2027 through their respective platforms and ensure dissemination of authentic information among the public to encourage maximum participation in this important national exercise.
The Chief Principal Census Officer was accompanied by Arun Kumar, Joint Principal Census Officer, Vijay Kumar, Assistant Chief Principal Census Officer. District Census Officer, Baramulla and Chief Planning Officer, (Nodal officer Census Officer), Baramulla were also present on the occasion.
