
Controller Legal Metrology Department (LMD) J&K Shiv Kumar Gupta conducted an extensive tour of district Baramulla today.
He chaired an awareness camp conducted by LMD Baramulla in collaboration with the University of Kashmir North Campus at the Auditorium of Kashmir University North Campus Delina Baramulla.
The awareness camp was attended by the Director Kashmir University North Campus, Dr. Sheikh Ghulam Mohammad, representatives from different trade bodies, faculty members and students of the campus.
During the camp, consumers and traders were made aware of their rights and responsibilities. Controller LMD J&K stressed on the need to create awareness in consumers and traders about the role of Legal Metrology Department in light of the Jan Vishwas reforms.
Speaking on the event, the Director Kashmir University North Campus highlighted the importance of consumer awareness with regard to various aspects of LPG, MS, HSD and food commodities.
The Controller Legal Metrology Department J&K also visited the Food Park Doabgah Sopore where the association of Industrial Units interacted with the Department and shared vital inputs with the Department about the recently launched Jan Vishwas reforms.
Pertinently, the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Act, 2026 has come into force from May 01, 2026 with respect to the amendments of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009. Jan Vishwas reforms are aimed at building trust in trade and commerce. Under the Jan Vishwas reforms, several offences have been decriminalized including some offences punishable under the Legal Metrology Act, 2009. Jan Vishwas 2.0 has amended 784 Sections of 79 Central Acts including 26 Sections of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009. The concept of improvement notices has been introduced for first offences punishable under several Sections of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009. These reforms are intended to create Ease of Doing Business and Ease of Living by shifting to a trust-based mechanism.
The Controller also visited the site alloted for construction of Working Standards Laboratories of District Baramulla. Exen R&B Division Pattan briefed the Controller about the Detailed Project Report of the Working Standards Laboratories which are expected to be taken up for construction during the current financial year after obtaining necessary approvals.
