PROMOTE ORGAN DONATION

PROMOTE ORGAN DONATION

Whether it is J&K or for that matter any other state or Union Territory, the need of organ transplant is rising with each passing day and therefore a comprehensive strategy should be chalked out to plug in the gap between organ donors and those in dire need of the organs for adding years in their lives. Recently, the doctors have advised for mandatory organ donation after death to overcome the dearth of organs for those who required the same to sustain life but the idea needs lot of efforts before people could be convinced especially when the society as a whole is of oriental thought and slow in accepting such changes. Reportedly, around 20 people die daily awaiting organ transplant across the country as the organ donation rate in India is marginal as compared to several other countries, which should not be the case as society should stand for this cause of saving hundreds of lives by way of initiating this practice of voluntary organ donation. The doctor fraternity could play a vital role in changing the narrative and encouraging the population to ponder over this important aspect to add years to lives of people facing organ failure as today the science has become so advanced that a single person ready to donate his or her organs can simultaneously save several lives as the donated organs can be used to treat different people at on go. There are many instances in recent past in the country wherein single brain dead person has saved several lives by way of organ donation. The voluntary organ donation is something which can bring revolution in the field of medical science especially in India and therefore all the entities should play their significant role in promoting organ donation along with asking the concerned authorities to develop facilities across the nation for ensuring successful organ transplants. Presently only the big centres across the country offer such facilities but the need of time is that every big and small city should be given priority for developing such facilities for saving lives as far as possible.
