SELF DEFENCE FOR GIRLS
It is really laudable that Drass Zone has taken the lead in holding Self Defence Camp for girl students of Middle Schools by roping in Ladakh Taekwondo Association because it has become critically necessary to train the girl child in a way that she becomes self-reliant in all aspects and can ensure that safety and security under adverse conditions because today the crime against the fair sex has touched new heights despite stringent laws and unending efforts of cops. The training was organized by Ladakh Taekwondo Association under the aegis of Education Department Kargil under Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan and conducted by international player, and coaches of Ladakh Taekwondo Association at 10 different clusters of Drass. The J&K UT should also take cue from this and start holding similar training programmes for the girl students by roping concerned entities as this could be an effective way of empowering girls in the society because there is need to make them strong physically, mentally and psychologically. Self-defence training is a life skill that can strengthen girls to be more aware of their surroundings and be prepared for the unexpected at any time. Through this kind of training, the girls are taught to become psychologically, intellectually and physically strong enough to protect themselves in times of distress because these training skills instill self confidence amongst girls and help girls to come out in the society without any fear. This in turn can also help girls in attaining their education with more confidence and lesser hurdles because it has been seen in the past that rudimentary society’s norms led to an increased ratio of female school dropouts. The government should ensure that every girl child in the Union Territory of J&K must have attained a minimum level of self-defence training so that no one can bully them or stop them from achieving what these strong girls deserve. There is a provision for such training schedules for the girls and the government should ensure that all girls avail this facility to become the strong and meaningful citizens of the country, and no one can shatter their dreams to reach skies in the coming times.
