JUST DO IT

JUST DO IT

The report affirming that Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Jammu is planning to start organ donations from brain dead persons is really a matter of great satisfaction because this facility can help save many lives because there are many patients waiting to get life saving organs. It is pertinent to mention that GMC Jammu has recently made a breakthrough in live kidney transplant thus giving a sigh of relief to many. Of course there was no lack of talent or funds in J&K as doctors hailing from this region are doing phenomenally excellent work in hospitals across the nation and even abroad but due to the indifferent approach of successive governments such facilities remained like distant dreams for the people of J&K. Now, the BJP government at the centre, and LG Manoj Sinha’s administration in J&K have shown the world that where there is will there is a way and that is the reason behind such facilities being offered in the government healthcare institutions of J&K. No doubt that the path is difficult and lots of efforts will be required to accomplish this facility but to make things happen there is need to at least start the work and that approach has been adopted now after over 70 years of independence thus paving for aforesaid facilities and many others in the time to come. Although the entire project is in its infancy stage, things will soon transform for the betterment of all and therefore the government should encourage the medicos at the central stage so that no bottlenecks confront the process and the facility in the making sees no hurdles. For organ donations from deceased donors, earlier people from J&K used to get their recipient (patient) registered either at AIIMS, New Delhi or at PGI Chandigarh but as kidney transplantation has now started in Jammu few days back, more than 25 patients got themselves registered at the concerned agency in last few weeks for receiving organs in J&K. The good thing about organ donation is that one can live even after death in his eyes, heart, kidney etc donated to others. It will be good for one and all in the UT of J&K to have the aforesaid facility as soon as possible to help people live longer. The government should do whatever possible in this direction as this is one of the top priorities of the healthcare system in J&K.
