NC MP’s son detained by police, alleges family

Hilal Akbar Lone, who is the son of National Conference (NC) Member of Parliament (MP) Mohammad Akbar Lone, was allegedly detailed by police in north Kashmir district of Bandipora on Friday.

“Lone was detained by police at Sumbal in Bandipora when he was on way to Srinagar from his native village Naidkhai in Baramulla,” the family members of Mr Hilal, a senior NC leader, said.

They said no reason was given for his detention by the police. “We demand that he be released immediately,” they added.

The administration has come under severe criticism for allegedly detained several political leaders, including senior PDP leaders, in the valley during the last about a week.

Hilal was detained for several months under Public Safety Act (PSA), which was imposed against several top leaders, including former three chief ministers, other political workers and activities post abrogation of Article 370 and Article 35 A on August 5, 2019.
