NPP holds protest outside Ramnagar Police Station

Ramnagar, 21-09-2020: Alleging deterioration in law and order and fast increasing crime rate in Ramnagar, the activists of NPP led by Mr. Harsh Dev Singh, Chairman-JKNPP & former Minister held a massive protest outside Ramnagar Police Station today. The protesters took out a procession from main bazar which culminated at Police Station Ramnagar where the party leaders including Neelam Bhagat Chairperson BDC Parly Dhar, Shushma Devi Chairperson BDC Kulwanta and Des Raj Chairman BDC Ramnagar staged a dharna. The protestors raised slogans against local police accusing them of sheltering criminals, vandals and other gangsters for extraneous considerations and for other vested interests.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Harsh Dev Singh regretted that the Police had failed to take cognizance of the increased criminals’ activity in Ramnagar wherein the anti-social and other notorious characters had been allowed to operate with impunity. Alleging jungle raj in Ramnagar, he said that with more than a dozen cases of murders having gone untraced in the past few years, the said Tehsil had earned the most dubious notoriety in crime. “With majority of the cases pertaining to murders/mysterious deaths of people belonging to underprivileged and other weaker sections, the marginalized classes in particular were fast losing faith in present set up. And despite massive public outrage, the police had failed to trace even a single murder case”, lamented Singh.

Alleging a deep rooted nexus between a section of Police and politically protected and financially sound criminals, Mr. Singh regretted that the common man felt most insecure and lived in an atmosphere of fear and terror. “It was most distressing to note that Dalit community in particular was being targeted with none to even listen to their complaints. There were several episodes wherein Dalit males and females were physically assaulted, abused, threatened, maltreated and victimized by ‘goonda’ elements enjoying political patronage but their complaints had been summarily rejected by the Police for reasons best known. There were instances wherein the people were assaulted and attacked in the presence of Police with the concerned officials absolving the criminals and harassing the victims”, regretted Singh.

Pointing towards the cold blooded murders of Sudesh Kumar S/o Shiv Darshan and Shanker Dass S/o Balla, Mr. Singh said that the dead bodies of both SC youth were found hanging on trees with no breakthrough made by the Police for the past around two years. Likewise the dead bodies of Ramesh S/o Mangta, Som Raj S/o Santosh Kumar, Som Raj Masha S/o Laju, Ravi S/o Shankar, Chuni Lal S/o Santu, Pushpa W/o Makhan, Sanjay Kumar S/o Mir Chand and Dharam Chand, Kulwanta Block President of NPP were found at different places and reports lodged with Police but of no consequence, Mr. Singh.

Mr. Singh further lamented the non apprehension of culprits who had passed derogatory and castiest remarks against female Block Chairperson belonging to SC community who were being threatened and terrorized to withdraw the complaints filed by them. The Police had even failed to take action against the criminals who molested SC girls on a village pond in Chanunta which too had sparked public massive outrage against the public for its partisan, corrupt and biased conduct, asserted Singh.

Seeking early apprehension of criminals and imposition of PSA against the dreaded criminals, Mr. Singh sought early investigation into all complaints of murders and other heinous offences which were either being delayed or closed by the unscrupulous officers for reasons best known.

Prominent among those who spoke on the occasion included Mrs. Manju Singh, Rampual Bhagat, Shiv Dev, Dev Singh, Pawan Dev Singh, Pushvinder Singh, Madan Lal Sharma, Kulwant Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Kali Dass, Raju Sharma, Movin Banday, Mohit Mankotia, Shankar Dass besides others.
