Death toll due to COVID-19 mounts to 211; 176 fatalities in 42 days in J&K

The death toll due to COVID-19 in the Union Territory of J&K has risen to 211 with five more persons, all from Kashmir, dying due to the infection since late Wednesday night.

With these deaths, 176 people have lost their lives due to infection in 42 days, and 196 people in 56 day in J&K, where the COVID-19 positive cases have crossed 11,600-mark.

They said a 65-year-old man, a resident of Khwajabagh in Baramulla, was admitted to S K Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) on July 7 for Community Acquired Pneumonia (CAP) and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). “The patient, who was tested positive for COVId-19, suffered a massive heart attack early in the morning and died,” they said.

They said another 65-year-old man, a resident of Bijbehara in Anantnag, died at the hospital on Thursday morning. “The patient, who was suffering from Community Acquired Pneumonia (CAP), besides other complications, had tested positive for COVID-19,” they said.

Meanwhile, a test result of a 60-year-old woman, who died at Government Medical College (GMC), Anantnag, on Monday, came positive for COVID-19 late on Wednesday night. “The woman, a resident of Kokernag in Anantnag, was suffering from multiple problems,” they said.

However, the family of the woman has reportedly alleged that they were not asked to follow any guidelines by the hospital administration while performing the last rites of the deceased. According the reports, many people have participated in the last rites of the women as she was not a COVID-19 positive patient and there were no directions by the hospital administration.They said two more patients, including a resident of Buchpora in Srinagar, died due to COVID-19.Ten districts of Jammu have reported 18 fatalities while 193 people have lost their lived due to COVID-19 in ten districts of Kashmir.With these fatalities, the death toll due to COVID-19 has risen 45 in Baramulla, which stands at number two. Srinagar is the worst affected district in J&K in terms of causalities with 50 deaths due to COVID-19. Ganderbal district recorded fourth death due to COVID-19 on July 12.

The number of deaths stands at 23 in Kulgam while 15 people have lost their lives to the disease in Budgam and 17 each in Anantnag and Shopian. Eleven people have lost their lives in Shopian in Kupwara, eight in Pulwama and three in Bandipora.Twenty four people, including two CRPF jawans, died due to COVID-19 during the first three days of this week.As many as 48 patients — including 10 persons from Baramulla, 12 from Srinagar, six from Kulgam, three from Anantnag, Kupwara and Budgam, Jammu region, two each from Shopian and Ganderbal, one patient each from Pulwama, Bandipora and a BSF jawan — died due to COVID-19 last week.As many as 41 people — including nine from Srinagar, 10 from Baramulla, five each from Anantnag, three from Kulgam, Budgam and Shopian, two each from Kupwara and Bandipora, one each from Jammu and Ganderbal — died due to COVID-19 between June 29 and July 5.
