162 new COVID-19 cases in J&K, tally mounts to 1921

An ambulance driver was among 162 persons, including 124 from Kashmir and 38 from Jammu, who tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, taking the total number of infected people in the Union Territory of J&K to 1921.

Meanwhile, the death toll in J&K rose to 26 with the death of two people, including a 70-year-old man from Anantnag and 55-year-old man from Srinagar, due to COVID-19 in Kashmir valley.

An official on Wednesday said that 124 more people tested positive for Coronavirus in Kashmir division while 38 new cases were reported from Jammu. “Kulgam recorded the highest number of 27 new COVID-19 cases followed by Kupwara with 26 cases,” he said, adding 21 persons tested positive for the infection in Pulwama.

“Srinagar registered 20 new COVID-19 cases,” he said, adding Shopian recorded 12 and Baramulla 10 new cases.

He said 11 persons each tested positive in Udhampur and Poonch, adding Jammu and Anantnag recorded four cases each. “Ganderbal in Kashmir and Kishtwar and Doda were the only districts with zero new cases,” he added.

With 162 new cases, he said the total number of infected persons in J&K has risen to 1921. “Out of these, 1535 are in Kashmir and 386 are in Jammu,” he said.

He said the total active positive cases in the UT stand at 1041, including 753 from Kashmir and 288 from Jammu.

He said 21 COVID-19 patients from J&K were discharged on Wednesday after being treated successfully. “As many as 854 positive patients were treated and discharged successfully so far,” he said.

With the death of the Srinagar resident, seven people have lost their lives due to COVID-19 in the district, which is the worst affected district in terms of mortality rate. Anantnag stands at number two with five deaths after today’s fatality in the district. Kulgam and Baramulla stand at number three with four deaths each.

Meanwhile, Kulgam is the worst affected district in terms of active positive COVID-19 cases, which stand at 230, followed by Anantnag with 159 and Kupwara with 122.
