
As part of the ongoing 100 Day Intensive Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA), extensive awareness, enforcement and community outreach activities were conducted across various areas of District Budgam to strengthen the fight against drug abuse and illicit narcotic cultivation.
The Excise Department Budgam, in coordination with various stakeholders, carried out a series of awareness programmes, inspections, surveys and community interaction drives aimed at sensitizing the public about the harmful effects of drugs and promoting a healthy, drug-free society.
Under the campaign, the Excise Team Budgam organized an awareness programme at Village Hardu Surash, Tehsil Khag, where anti-drug awareness posters were pasted and distributed among the local population. The team also conducted surveys of fields, orchards and farmlands to detect illicit cultivation of narcotic crops such as poppy and cannabis.
Similarly, as part of the NMBA programme, the Excise Team conducted a survey and awareness drive against illicit cultivation of poppy and bhang at Village Mochowa, Panchayat Halqa Mochowa, Tehsil BK Pora. Local residents were sensitized regarding the ill effects of drug abuse.
The Excise Team Budgam, along with Police, also conducted inspections of pharmacies at Aribagh, Kanipora and Khanda to ensure compliance with regulations governing the sale and distribution of pharmaceutical drugs and to prevent misuse of narcotic and psychotropic substances.
In the educational sector, an awareness workshop under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan was successfully organized at Government Degree College (GDC) Magam. Students and faculty members actively participated in the programme and pledged their commitment towards building a drug-free society.
Further, various awareness and outreach activities were conducted in Block SK Pora under the intensive NMBA campaign. Panchayat-level special meetings were also organized across all halqas of Block Narbal, where participants discussed preventive measures, community participation and the collective responsibility of society in combating drug abuse.
The District Administration Budgam is committed towards intensifying awareness campaigns, strengthening preventive mechanisms and ensuring active public participation under the 100 Day Intensive Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
The public was appealed to remain vigilant and extend cooperation to enforcement agencies in achieving the vision of a drug-free Budgam.
