Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra has once again proved that it is a leading university both in peace and in the pandemic time. This time, a B.Tech. 2nd Year Student Mr. Ayush Yadav, has come up with an innovation, namely “COVID-19 smart Sanitizer Dispenser” which will be a timely contribution to the society in this global testing time.
Mr. Ayush and his Mentor Dr. Rakesh Jha, Senior Faculty, School of Electronics and Communication Engineering, SMVDU, described the smart machine, which dispenses sanitizer from a distance without touching it. This ensures no contact, and thereby no chance of COVID-19 transmission. As soon as the hands reach the smart machine jar it dispenses right amount of sanitation without touching it as recommended by health agencies. Adding to this innovation component further, the device is self sufficient to raise an alarm if a person bypasses it, and the smart machine also counts the users number. These properties make this device a must for office spaces and other public places.
Quite regularly, SMVDU caters a unique environment of innovation and entrepreneurship in the region and envisions education with futuristic goals in objectives. The university provides quality education to inculcate innovation in young minds. As a result, faculty and students have been bringing laurels to the university time and again. Until recently the university has secured the 71st Rank in Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2020, and become the only university from the region of Jammu and Kashmir for fulfilling one of the futuristic United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The innovators duo gives credit of these achievements to the efforts put up by the Vice-Chancellor, SMVDU, Prof. R K Sinha.
The Vice-Chancellor congratulated Mr. Ayush and Dr. Jha for this innovation, and encouraged the budding Engineers for more innovations like this. Deans and other faculty members also expressed their best wishes. SMVDU Technology Business Incubation centre offered the team to develop it further as an idea for a startup. Mr. Ayush and Dr. Rakesh Jha expressed their gratitude to Institution Innovation Council, SMVDU and TEQIP III Grant for their support in bringing idea into reality. SMVDU IP Management Cell has also initiated agreements for technology transfer so that the device can be brought to market for the use of common masses asap.
