Elderly man dies due to COVID-19 in Kashmir, death toll rises to 10 in J&K

An elderly man died on Monday due to Coronavirus in Kashmir valley, taking the death toll in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to 10.

The death of the elderly man comes just days after his son became the youngest victim of the infection in J&K, which is witnessing unabated risen in the number of COVID-19 cases.

Official sources said that the downtown Srinagar resident, who was tested positive for COVID-19 few days back, died at Chest Disease Hospital in Srinagar on Monday afternoon. “The patient, who was shifted to CD hospital on May 8 after he tested positive for COVID-19, was suffering from pancreatic cancer and had other comorbidities,” they said.

The deceased’s son, a 34-year-old youth, had tested positive for COVID-19 hours after he died on May 7 at SHMS hospital. The death of the 34-year-old had come just days after a woman, a plastic surgery patient, from Anantnag and her attendant tested positive for COVID-19 at Super Speciality Hospital, Shireen Bagh, where the deceased was attending to his father in cancer ward.

Since then, three nurses from the Super Speciality Hospital, Shireen Bagh have tested positive for COVID-19.

J&K recorded first death due to COVID-19 on March 25, when a 65-year-old man from Hyderpora died due to the infection at Chest Disease Hospital. Then, on March 29, a 50-year-old man, a resident of Tangmarg, passed away at CD hospital.

Earlier in April, a 54-year-old Bandipora resident, who was tested positive for the infection, died at SMHS hospital. Later on April 8, a 61-year-old woman from Udhampur died at Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu.

A 70-year-old patient died on April 17 due to Coronavirus in Kashmir valley. An elderly man, a resident of Baramulla, on April 18 died due to Coronavirus in Kashmir valley. A pregnant woman, who died at a hospital in Anantnag on April 25, tested positive on April 26. An 80-year-old woman died in a hospital in Srinagar on April 28 due to the infection.
