BORDER ROADS ORGANISATION COMMEMORATES 60TH RAISING DAY: BRO – CREATES, CONNECTS AND CARES

            Border Roads Organisation(BRO) commemorates its 60th Raising Day on 07 May 2020 to mark its achievements and stay fully geared up to meet the future challenges as a major contribution in Nation building. The BRO was raised with an aim of accelerated construction of road network and infrastructure in Northern and North Eastern Border areas of the Country. The organization, conceived primarily as a road construction agency, has over the years, spread its wings and diversified into a large spectrum of construction and development works comprising road projects, defence works, bridges and tunnels. BRO meets the strategic requirements of Army and has constructed over 53,600 Km roads. The BRO has 18 Projects and also constructed roads in friendly foreign countries like Bhutan, Myanmar, Afghanistan etc, contributing towards our strategic objectives in the region.      

            BRO has also been instrumental in the socio-economic development of the region by opening new trade routes and joining the remote and inhospitable areas with the rest of the country. Personnel of BRO are working relentlessly under extreme climatic and hostile conditions with utmost zeal, enthusiasm, courage and dedication.

            Regardless of harsh and uncongenial climatic conditions, high altitude, limited working seasons, BRO has dramatically achieved higher targets and exceeded all expectations by providing infrastructure and connectivity in shortest possible time. BRO has been praised for their dedication & nation building through infrastructure development & war preparedness through construction of roads, bridges, airfields and tunnels.


Project Sampark is one of the projects of BRO which was carved out of Project Beacon on 01 Jan 1975. It covers area south of Pir Panjal ranges in J&K, parts of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. It has been constructing and maintaining the strategic road network in the border districts of Jammu, Kathua, Doda, Udhampur, Rajouri, Reasi and Poonch since lasts 44 years and has been a major contributor in ensuring the preparedness of our Armed Forces and development of this remote area. Project Sampark has a special distinction of achieving 1200.72 m bridge targets in Financial Year 2019-20 which is almost 40% of the entire BRO achievements.
