Coronavirus in J&K: Public transport banned, state roadways buses to be allowed in Jammu

 

A complete ban on public transport in Jammu district has been imposed by the state government on Friday. Only state roadways buses to be allowed to ply on the roads amid the rising number of coronavirus cases in the country. Kashmir was put under virtual lockdown on Thursday as authorities scrambled through the previous night to come up with a strategy to contain the spread of coronavirus in the valley, a day after a woman with travel history to Saudi Arabia tested positive for the disease. Public transport in Srinagar city, the capital of the Jammu and Kashmir Union territory, was ordered off the roads, while markets were shut on orders of the authorities.

Novel coronavirus confirmed cases in India has surged to 195 on Friday after 22 fresh cases were reported from various parts of the country, according to the Health Ministry data. The cases include 32 foreign nationals including 17 from Italy, 3 from the Philippines, two from the UK, one each belonging to Canada, Indonesia and Singapore. The figure also includes four deaths reported from Delhi, Karnataka, Punjab and Maharashtra so far. Meanwhile, global coronavirus confirmed cases are around 2,44,324 with over 146,746 active cases while 87,551 have recovered. Global death toll due to Covid 19 has surpassed 10,027.
