BJP has always stood for release of political detainees: Brig Gupta

Welcoming the release of Dr Farooq Abdullah former Chief Minister and Member of Lok Sabha from Srinagar, Brig Anil Gupta, Spokesperson of Bharatiya Janata Party has reiterated the party’s stand of releasing the political detainees as per the assessment of the local administration post their detention on 05 August.

Reacting to the reports in certain sections of the mediawrongly attributing to BJP the arrest/release of Farooq Abdullah and other political detainees, Brig Gupta retorted,“It is a purely administrative decision of the local administration and the government which has been constantly reviewing the situation in Kashmir and the same cannot be attributed to BJP in any way. The government has released many leaders in the past and now Dr Farooq Abdullah’ detention under the PSA has been revoked. BJP had always welcomed these decisions because we are committed to restoration of peace and termination of terrorism and separatism in Valley. BJP supports all measures taken by the government to this end.”

Farooq’s detention under PSA has been revoked by the government based on the latest assessment of the situation, asserted Brig Gupta. It is hoped that release of Dr Farooq will contribute towards strengthening of peace process in Kashmir and enhancement of democratic process.

“Keeping in mind his past record and his tendency to blow hot and cold to provoke and emotionally exploit his audience, one hopes that Farooq will now be realist, accept the changed ground reality post 05 August and contribute towards the holistic development of the UT and empowerment of the common man, which has suffered in the past due to the vacillating stance of his party,” wished the spokesperson.

It is now the repentance time for Dr Abdullah and his Party. “If you took a piece of sweet from a sweet box and ate it you can’t return it; all you can do is repent for your action. Similarly, having ruled the state for decades and failing to develop it despite huge central grants, the least NC can do now is to contribute towards the efforts of the Modi government aimed at making J&K terror free, peaceful and self-reliant,” hoped Brig Gupta. Public will forgive them for their past deeds only if their contribution in the changed scenario is positive.  Let us all rise to the clarion call given by the Prime Minister from the rampant of the Red Fort to change the fortune of the beleaguered people of Jammu & Kashmir, appealed Brig Gupta.
