Do not spread fake news, shape future with right information: JU VC to youth

Focusing on the prime duty of the youth nowadays to share and re-share news that comes to them, Vice Chancellor University of Jammu, Prof Manoj K Dhar has asked them to shape their future and of nation as well, they should not spread fake news but only the right information to the people.
“It lies in the hands of youth to mould and reshape the future,” said the Vice Chancellor while addressing a seminar on ‘Misinformation a Menace’ at University of Jammu organized by India First Foundation in collaboration with IIMC and TENNetworks.
He said that only few people are aware about the menace of fake news and those who know must take the responsibility of educating others about its dangers.
He also said, “if everybody takes the responsibility of ensuring that fake news is kept out of their circles and call it out if and when they come across it.”
The VC further spoke about the spread of false information on platforms such as Facebook and WhatsApp and other social media applications and the threat they pose to society.
The event focused on the problems regarding the rise in dissemination of the fake news and how social media is playing a key role in doing so.
Jammu University Public Relation Officer, Official Spokesperson, Dr Vinay Thussoo introduced the panel to the details of misinformation and types of fake news post which senior journalist Ashwani Kumar stressed on a stronger media policy in the country.
