Establish Narcotics Control Bureau to wipe out drug menace from J&K: Team Jammu

Expressing dire need of establishing a full fledge Rehabilitation Centre for victims, Team Jammu today demanded immediate constitution of Narcotic Control Bureau to completely wipe out drug menace from Jammu and Kashmir.

While addressing a press conference here today, Chairman, Team Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal, said that “in past few years, the drug addiction has increased at an alarming rate in Jammu and Kashmir especially in Jammu Province and has virtually assumed as most serious threat in the shape of narco-terrorism. The alarming situation can be gauged from the fact that not only big cities and town in the Union Territory of J&K, but even small village are not left untouched by the drugs mafia, which has spread its network throughout the State.”

“Besides people of young and different age groups, a big part of the drug victims is school and college going students who in their tender age are easy prey for drug mafia. Children below 10th class due to their tender age are easy target of this mafia and are getting addict of this chemical poison at a shocking rate,” Team Jammu chief, Zorawar Singh Jamwal informed and further pointed out that, “Despite various incidents and representations, the concerned agencies have deliberately turned a Nelson’s eye towards this severe issue. Such a step motherly attitude towards people of Jammu shows that the government is least bothered about them as it is mum over the serious issue of drug addiction in the region”.

“The Govt agencies have so far failed in all respect to save youth of the region from this intolerable menace. Existing old laws in J&K against menace of drugs (Narcotic substances) have failed to bring proper distinction between victim and accused and also failed to curb the network of drug mafia in the region,” pointed out Chairman, Team Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal and added, “though Police makes seizure of drugs and also apprehend a few accused, but no thorough investigation is made to arrest the big fishes and real culprits, who are operating this racket with links from across the border. Besides, the official data revealed by top police brass, including registration of 938 cases in year 2018 and 1161 cases in 2019 under NDPS in J&K is itself an indicator that there is utmost need to establish full fledged Narcotic Control Bureau to get rid of this deadly menace, which is targeting younger generation with every passing day.”

“In view of these facts, we are of firm opinion that there is dire need of establishing a Narcotics Control Bureau in J&K on the analogy of Anti-Corruption Bureau, Special Task Force (STF) and Special Operations Group (SOG) for tightening noose around the drug mafia and apprehend the real culprits, who are spreading narco-terrorism in the Union Territory. Moreover, there is complete failure in establishing a full fledge rehabilitation centre for victims of this threat. Everyday big announcements are made regarding development of UT,   but it is very unfortunate that nothing has been done on the ground. Govt has failed to prepare any rehabilitation policy for children and youth of region who are victim of this menace. People of the State in general and members of Team Jammu demands that in this regard, government must issue necessary directions to the concerned authorities without any further delay. Among others present on the occasion included Rajesh Kapoor, Bharat Sharma, Er.Chandan Datta & Dr.Ashish Sharma.
