GD Goenka initiates Go Green – A Plantation drive

G.D.Goenka Public School, governed by Om Prakash Bansal Charitable Trust initiated
a plantation drive of medicinal plants in the adjoining locality, as a part of British Council
activity to apprise the residents that a plant is an important source of medicine and
plays a key role in world health. Medicinal herbs or plants have been known to be
an important potential source of therapeutics or curative aids.
Students of senior classes (IX-XII) brought a sapling of medicinal plants such as Tulsi,
Neem, Aloevera, Giloi, Lemon Grass, Mint, Holy Basil,Turmeric,Coriander etc to name a
few and left the school campus to donate these beneficial plants in the adjoining
houses. They apprised the locals about the benefits of these plants in their day to day
lives and planted those in their gardens. The people listened with great intent to what
the children were speaking and really appreciated planting of those saplings in their
respective houses.
The residents assured the children to render full care towards that plant and help it grow
and nurture. They also supported the school children for this noble cause and promised
to take the legacy forward by telling other people also about it.
The enthusiastic children were beaming with joy and pride to have taught a lesson to a
few that how important are these medicinal plants in times of today where every now
and then there is this danger of swine flu, measles, dengue etc lurking. With these
plants in our compound we are sanitizing our surroundings and protecting ourselves
from diseases. All the children were found completely involved and extended their best
support to the farmers doing the chores and saving the environment.
The Principal Mr. Rajesh Rathore lauded these green warriors for having this unique
approach for the plantation of medicinal plants in the houses itself and protecting
oneself from a number of diseases.
