Jammu: Former Minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla on Monday asserted that the Jharkhand assembly election results show that the people are rising above the ‘divisive politics of the Bharatiya Janata Party’.”This is a clear victory of the democratic process in the country. It is evident that the common people are realizing that they (BJP) are polarising the people of the country with divisive issues for their political benefits,” Bhalla said.”However, they are not ready to be judged on their programs and policies. They want to bank upon the divisive issues. Now the people are realizing that and this is why they have given Congress more seats in the assembly,” Bhalla said.”These people are not interested in addressing the issues of the common people, like unemployment, inflation, farmers’ distress, and economic slowdown. They are only interested in dividing people and diverting their attention to divisive issues,” he added.
Former Minister slammed the BJP-ruled central government and said it had “completely failed” on all fronts no matter which parameter was used to evaluate its performance. Interacting with people of Gandhi Nagar constituency here, Congress leader said there were five universally accepted benchmarks to evaluate any government’s performance and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government failed in all of them. He said BJP Govt completely failed on social cohesion, internal security, economic development, international relations and commitment to institutionalism.”On each of these counts, the report card of the government is more than blotted.”He said that social cohesion and social balance had “completely gone for a toss” in the past five years.”It is primarily because this government doesn’t believe in the founding values of the Indian state and the idea of India,” Bhalla said.
Hitting out at PDP-BJP Government for making life of people miserable due to incompetent policies and administrative inexperience, Bhalla today said that people of J&K are cursing this insensitive Govt on daily basis for ignoring them completely and making them suffer for everything. The mess created by govt has resulted in total administrative failure in the Jammu division. Bhalla also exhorted the cadres to strengthen democracy at the grass-root level and give a befitting reply to those opposed to the principles of powers to the people. He said the time has come to strengthen the ideology and principles followed by the Congress party and its great leaders for strengthening the secularism, socialism and inclusive democracy. Priority of this regime is not to empower people by strengthening democratic institutions but those at the helm of affairs want to accomplish their nefarious designs by controlling such institutions through undemocratic means”, he observed and cautioned that such attitude of the ruling party would be proved disastrous for people of J&K. The government’s tenure is marked by gross non-delivery, acknowledged failure to fulfill the promises given to the nation and a betrayal of the people, particularly the poor, disadvantaged and the unemployed. This government till now has singularly lacked the vision to galvanise economic growth and has chosen instead to create a smokescreen making boastful claims,” said Bhalla.
Bhalla said that the people of Jammu are experiencing difficulties in these harsh winter months due to the shortage of electricity and erratic water supply and scarcity of ration at the ration depots. This government has miserably failed to live up to the expectations of the people. There is a strong resentment among the people against this government as it has not fulfilled its promises made at the time of elections. There is anger among people. BJP Govt has played with the sentiments of the people who voted them to power. People are not happy with their policies and the government has proved to be a failure. Common man has taken to the streets against governance deficit, lack of development and failure of the government to deliver on the promises made to the people of the Jammu and Kashmir,” Bhalla said. He said that Congress Party stands guarantee to the equitable development of J&K people and it will continue to serve the people to the best of its ability.
The farmers, business community, traders, students are totally fed up with this non-performing Government, which has failed on all fronts whether it is providing basic facilities to the people or paying timely wages to the daily wagers working in various departments of the J&K or checking price hike of essential commodities”, Bhalla said. Bhalla alleged that the BJP government in Jammu and Kashmir had become a “non-performing liability”, and said the administration must come out of deep slumber to infuse responsiveness and accountability in order to mitigate the sufferings of the people. The people have to struggle hard to get their basic amenities because the BJP dispensation is not paying due attention towards essential services such as road connectivity, providing ration to the people, health care, and water and electricity supplies,” he added. BJP will not succeed in misleading people further by their hollow slogans, they just want to remain in limelight to satisfy their mentors in Delhi,” he said. Instead of concentrating on development and people’s issues they are playing pranks with people on the name of Good Governance.
