Advisor Sharma declares open Chancellor’s Trophy-2019 at JU

The Chancellor’s Trophy -2019 organized by the Directorate of Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu commenced here today at the University Sports Stadium.

Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor,  K.K Sharma, declared  open the sports event in the presence of Vice Chancellor University of Jammu Prof. Manoj K. Dhar & a large number of gathering of guests, players, officials, employees & students of the University as well as the  people from the civil society.

The Chancellor’s Trophy  will continue till December 15, 2019,  and witness competitions in Hockey (M&W), Football (M&W) & Cricket  (M&W) and the participation of teams from the University of  Kashmir, SKIMS Soura, SKUAST Kashmir, Cluster University Srinagar, BGSB University Rajouri,  Cluster University Jammu, Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan Jammu, SKUAST Jammu and University of Jammu.

Around 500 players in men and women section from different universities of the J&K UT have confirmed their registration.

As per JU officials, the Chancellor’s Trophy is being hosted after the successful organisation of the 1st and 2nd State Universities Sports Championships in the year 2017 and 2018.

Addressing the gathering, K.K Sharma, congratulated the organizers for hosting the mega sports events, which will  provide an opportunity to the students of various Universities of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to come closer to each other and show their Sports talent.

Sharma also appreciated the massive participation of the players of the various Universities in the different   events of the Chancellor’s Trophy. The Chancellor’s Trophy -2019 was also unveiled by the Advisor.

Prof. Manoj K. Dhar, in his address, said that the University of Jammu is organizing various sports activities for encouraging sense of physical fitness and the qualities of sportsmanship, leadership, team spirit, discipline and camaraderie among the students.

Earlier, Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, presented the   welcome address and a detailed report of the various events of the said Trophy.

Former International Footballer, Arun Malhotra,  was guest of honour on the occasion. He has represented the country from the year 2000 to 2005-06 in many International Tournaments. He is a State Awardee and Sher-e-Kashmir Awardee too and presently associated with ONGC.  Malhotra also offered his services to the budding football players of University of Jammu.
