
SHOPIAN, MAY 08: In continuation to the leads received during the recent operation at Batpora Shopian, wherein 200 capsules of Pregabalin 300 mg were seized, another major consignment comprising 6000 capsules of Pregabalin 300 mg worth approximately Rs 2,53,000 were seized by joint teams of Drug Control department, Shopian and Pulwama.
The consignment was being transported through illegal means for unlawful sale and distribution in the district.
Acting swiftly on specific inputs developed by the Drug Control Office Shopian, a joint team of the Drug Control Department Shopian and Drug Control Department Pulwama, in close coordination with Police counterparts, conducted the operation and successfully intercepted the persons and seized the consignment.
Pregabalin is increasingly being misused by abusers, leading to serious public health and social concerns.The authorities have intensified surveillance and enforcement measures against the illegal trade, transportation and misuse of drugs.
The seizure was made following sustained tracking and verification of leads generated during the earlier crackdown in Shopian. The team chased the suspected movement of the consignment and acted promptly to prevent its illegal circulation in the market.
Officials stated that strict monitoring of pharmaceutical distribution networks is underway and that such drives shall continue in the coming days as well.
The administration and enforcement agencies are maintaining a close watch on the illegal movement and sale of habit-forming drugs, with special focus on protecting the youth from substance abuse.
People have also been urged to cooperate with enforcement agencies and share credible information regarding illegal drug trade so that timely action can be taken against those involved.
