Agriculture Department Shopian organizes Gender Sensitization Workshop on International Women’s Day Awareness created on women empowerment, gender equality and livelihood opportunities in agriculture and allied sectors

SHOPIAN, MARCH 8: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Department of Agriculture Shopian in collaboration with District Administration Shopian organized a one-day Training Programme under JKCIP on the theme “Gender Sensitization” at the Meeting Hall, Mini Secretariat Shopian.

The programme aimed to create awareness about gender equality, women empowerment and enhanced participation of women in agriculture and allied sectors.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Agriculture Officer, Shopian, Mohd Rafiq, highlighted the vital role of women in strengthening the agricultural economy.

During his address, he emphasized that women have immense potential to become self-reliant through activities such as mushroom cultivation, kitchen gardening, poultry farming, dairy farming and other agri-based enterprises at the household level under different agriculture schemes like JKCIP, HADP and CSS.

He encouraged women to actively participate in these sectors to improve their livelihood and contribute to the rural economy.

During the programme, Khushi Khanday, a successful entrepreneur and member of a youth club, delivered an informative lecture on women empowerment schemes in agriculture and allied sectors. She shared insights on opportunities available for women under different government programmes and motivated participants to take up entrepreneurship in agriculture.

The workshop witnessed active participation of farmers, women entrepreneurs involved in agriculture and allied activities, Kisan Khidmat Ghar (KKG), women Youth clubs and other stakeholders, who interacted with officers and discussed various opportunities available under government schemes.

The programme concluded with a strong message to promote gender equality and enhance women’s participation in agricultural development in the district.

The programme was attended by District Agriculture Officer Shopian, Mudasir Shafi, Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer Shopian, Imtiyaz Ahmad Bhat, Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer Keller, Mehindar Paul, besides other officers and officials of the department.
