Jal Shakti Department Kulgam holds “Nari Shakti Se Jal Shakti” event on International Women’s Day

KULGAM, MARCH 08: Jal Shakti Department Kulgam today organized a programme titled “Nari Shakti Se Jal Shakti” at the Conference Hall of Mini Secretariat Kulgam to mark International Women’s Day.

The event was held under the theme “Nari Neer Shakti Diwas”, highlighting the vital role of women in water management, community participation and sustainable development.

Speaking on the occasion, officials highlighted that women’s empowerment has remained a key objective across social and government sectors. In line with this vision, the Jal Jeevan Mission places special emphasis on community participation to ensure Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs) for every household.

It was informed that community involvement begins at the village level through Village Water and Sanitation Committees (VWSCs), popularly known as Pani Samitis, which play a crucial role in preparing Village Action Plans before the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission schemes.

The department has ensured 50 percent representation of women in these committees, enabling them to actively participate in the management and maintenance of water supply schemes in their respective villages.

To ensure the quality of drinking water at the household level, Field Test Kits (FTKs) have been provided to every Panchayat in the district. Around 10 to 15 women in each Panchayat have been trained to use these kits for testing water quality, thereby helping to ensure the safety and potability of drinking water supplied to the communities.

At the culmination of the event, appreciation letters were presented to several women who have been working with dedication in different sectors including RDD, ICDS and ASHA workers, recognizing their contribution towards community welfare and water management initiatives.

The programme was attended by officials of the Jal Shakti Department, representatives of various departments and women participants from across the district.
