
BANDIPORA, FEBRUARY 05 : Under the 4th spell of the “Child Marriage Free Bharat” Campaign, which focuses on Gram Panchayat-led community engagement, Gram Sabha action, and Panchayat resolutions to declare areas child-marriage-free, Mission Vatsalya (Child Protection Services) Bandipora organized an awareness and sensitization programme at Mantrigam Panchayat Halqa B, of District Bandipora, with active participation from various stakeholders.
During the programme, a resolution was passed in line with Spell 4, reaffirming the Panchayat’s commitment to prevent child marriage, strengthen local vigilance, and promote community ownership in safeguarding children.
Village heads including Ex.Sarpanch, Chowkidars, Lumberdars, Ex.Ward Members, Auqaf Committee President, along with Anganwadi Workers, ASHA Workers, and local residents were sensitized about the harmful consequences of child marriage, legal provisions, and preventive strategies.
Emphasis was placed on the collective responsibility of families and community leaders to protect Child Rights and ensure education and overall well-being.
Officials from DCPU, CWC, CHL and CHD highlighted the negative physical, mental, and social impacts of child marriage and urged participants to remain vigilant and report incidents.
The Child Helpline number 1098 was widely shared, and informative posters were displayed at schools and Gram Panchayats to enhance awareness.
The programme concluded with a collective pledge by community members to support government initiatives and work towards making District Bandipora child-marriage-free, ensuring a safer future for children.
