Education Deptt. Shopian organises District-Level Seminar on Road Safety at GDC

SHOPIAN, JANUARY 16: Education Department Shopian, organised a district-level seminar on road safety under the title “School Leadership Programme on Road Safety” with the objective of sensitising school leadership about their crucial role in promoting road safety awareness among students and the wider community here at Government Degree College (GDC), Shopian today.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Shopian, Dr. Zakir Hussain Faaz was the Chief Guest on this occasion, Who inaugurated the seminar and emphasised the urgent need for road safety awareness in view of the increasing number of road accidents. He highlighted that lack of awareness, negligence, and non-adherence to traffic rules often result in fatal consequences. He also appreciated the Education Department for taking proactive steps to involve school leadership in this vital social cause.

Chief Education Officer Shopian, Bashir Ahmed Shah highlighted the pivotal role of teachers and school heads in shaping the attitudes and behaviour of future generations. He stated that students learn not only through textbooks but also by observing the conduct of teachers and elders.

ARTO Shopian, Showkat Ahmed delivered a comprehensive presentation on traffic rules, road signs and legal provisions related to road safety. He highlighted common violations that lead to accidents and explained preventive strategies to minimise road mishaps. He also encouraged schools to actively participate in awareness campaigns and collaborate with transport authorities to strengthen road safety education.

A resource person, Dr. Feroz Ahmad Lone, focused on the psychological and behavioural aspects of road safety. He stressed the importance of developing positive attitudes towards traffic rules and safe road practices from a young age.

All the experts emphasised that prevention is the most effective strategy to avoid road accidents and that coordinated efforts by education, transport, and police departments can bring about a meaningful change in road safety culture.

The event was attended by several senior officers and dignitaries, besides a large number of school heads and educational leaders from across the district.
