DC Baramulla chairs 24th NCORD meeting to review Anti-Drug Measures

BARAMULLA, JANUARY 16: District Magistrate Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, today chaired the 24th meeting of the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) at the Meeting Hall, Baramulla, to review the implementation of measures aimed at curbing drug abuse and illicit trafficking in the district.

During the meeting, the DC underscored the importance of collective, coordinated, and sustained efforts by all stakeholders to effectively eliminate the drug menace from society. He directed the concerned departments to expedite preventive and enforcement measures at identified drug-prone locations.

The District Magistrate further directed that all pending works related to the Drug De-addiction Centre at Sopore be completed by January 31. He also set January 20 as the deadline for completing surveillance-related measures at identified hotspots to strengthen monitoring and enforcement.

Emphasizing prevention as a key pillar in the fight against drug abuse, the DC called for intensified awareness campaigns in schools, colleges, and public spaces to sensitize the youth about the harmful consequences of substance abuse.

He also instructed the Education Department to ensure regular monitoring and vigilance in educational institutions to prevent any illegal or undesirable activities. The DC stressed that strict enforcement, public awareness, and rehabilitation must proceed simultaneously to achieve the goal of a drug-free Baramulla.

The meeting concluded with a resolve to strengthen inter-departmental coordination and further intensify efforts to combat drug abuse across the district.
