Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha termed the incident of death in suspected firing in Rajori as unfortunate. Expressing condolences to the affected families, he has also given instructions to give proper treatment to the injured youth. LG has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to the next of kin of the two youths killed. On the other hand, the dead were cremated on Saturday afternoon.
Earlier, Bharatiya Janata Party state president Ravindra Raina said that the police and army would investigate the death of the youth in a transparent manner. He said that the way the investigation into the killing of three youths in the Shopian encounter was done, there would be a clear and transparent investigation in this matter as well. On Friday, two porters were killed when suspects opened fire at around 6:30 a.m. outside an army camp in Alpha Traffic Check Post (TCP) area adjacent to the city on the Rajouri-Jammu highway. Apart from this, another was seriously injured.
Enraged by the incident, the local citizens blocked the highway for seven hours and pelted stones at the army camp and army vehicles. After the incident, the army clarified in a tweet that both the porters were killed while another was injured in the firing by the suspected terrorists.
