NEW MENACE
A relatively new menace has emanated in the UT of J&K which is giving a severe headache to the cops because the young bikers come on roads trying dangerous stunts putting their lives and that of fellow commuters into deep danger. What was started with installing loud sound horns on bikes and over-speeding has now taken the shape of dangerous driving in the name of bike stunts. Despite cases have been reported in the Union Territory of J&K whereby young boys have lost their lives or received critical injuries while showing mindless daredevilry on the wheels there is no let up to this menace as traffic cops and executive police is struggling to tighten noose around such youngsters keeping at stake their lives and that of others while performing illegal and dangerous stunts on roads. In this context, Jammu and Kashmir Police has detained at least 8 teenagers for doing dangerous bike stunts on Boulevard road in Srinagar city. The information with this regard was shared by police on its twitter handle claiming that eight teenage boys have been detained for doing dangerous life-threatening stunts on Boulevard Road on banks of Dal Lake. Reportedly, the delinquent boys were handed over to families after full day counselling and receiving the good behaviour bond. The four modified bikes used by them have also been seized. This is not the first time that police has accomplished such an action because earlier also similar drives had been carried out in the UT of J&K to stop youngsters from indulging in reckless driving but the menace is growing with each passing day. Looking into the craving for such kind of dangerous driving among the youth, it is advisable that LG Manoj Sinha should mull a project to provide training to the youngsters from the experts in the field in Army and Police who during Republic Day and Independence Parades show their skills in bike stunts. The government should segregate a particular road stretches for the purpose both in Srinagar and Jammu where traffic should be disallowed to facilitate the training of bike stunts providing first aid facility and other means to deal with any kind of medical exigencies as this will regulate the activity and a stipulated fee should also be charged to generate revenue, which is also an important constituent. Government can also invite international level experts for the purpose as this will ensure safety of the youth and will also make the roads safer for the commuters.
