DB Directs JMC & SMC to submit latest status of construction of modern slaughter houses
JKUT (Jammu), November-10-2021-( JNF):- In the much publicized Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by an NGO ‘SAVE’ (Save Animal Value Environment) through its Chairperson Devinder Kaur Madaan alias Rumpy Madaan seeking closure of un-regulated and un-registered/un-licensed slaughter houses/meat shops in the U.T. of Jammu and Kashmir including Jammu/Srinagar Cities, a Division Bench of the Jammu & Kashmir Court comprising Chief Justice Pankaj Mithal and Justice Mohan Lal directed Jammu Municipal Corporation and Srinagar Municipal Corporation to file latest status report within three weeks regarding the progress of the construction of the slaughter houses in two cities.
When the PIL came-up for hearing, Division Bench after hearing Adv Sheikh Shakeel Ahmed for the PIL observed that the order dated 29.12.2020 records that the work of construction of two slaughter houses in Jammu would commence soon as tenders for the construction have been received by the competent authority and the work shall be allotted within no time.
Adv Harshwardhan Gupta, appearing for the Jammu Municipal Corporation, submits that the work has already been allotted and it is in progress but there is nothing on record to show to whom the work has been allotted and what is the extent of the progress and when the proposed construction is likely to be completed. Similarly, the aforesaid order reflects that the work of construction of slaughter house in Srinagar is in progress and it would be completed within
next 7/8 months.
DB observed that the said period is already over but Sh. S.S.Nanda has not apprised the court as to the progress of the said slaughter house.
Upon this Division Bench directed Jammu Municipal Corporation and Srinagar Municipal Corporation to file latest status report regarding the progress of the construction of the slaughterhouses in two cities. The report shall be filed within three weeks. JNF
