Soldier commits suicide by shooting self in Shopian

An Army soldier committed suicide by shooting self with his service rifle in south Kashmir district of Shopian.

 

Official sources said that panic gripped village Zawoora when a gunshot was heard during the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday from a security force camp in Shopian. “The security forces rushed to the area from where the gunshot was heard and found a jawan in a pool of blood,” they said.

They said the injured was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead. “It was not immediately clear why he took this extreme step,” they said, adding police has registered a case and initiated investigation to ascertain the circumstance which forced him to commit suicide.

This is the second incident in less than 24 hours in Kashmir in which a security force personnel committed suicide with his service rifle. An on duty Border Security Force (BSF) jawan, identified as Head Constable Bharinder Singh, allegedly committed suicide by shooting self in Tanghdar sector in north Kashmir district of Kupwara on Wednesday.
