Nine persons — including eight from Kashmir and one from Jammu — died due to COVID-19 since late Friday evening, taking the death toll due to the virus in the Union Territory of J&K to 305.
With these deaths, 270 people have lost their lives due to COVID-19 in 51 days, and 290 people in 65 day in J&K, where 523 new positive cases were detected on Saturday, taking the total number of infected persons to 17305.
As many as 52 people, including 50 from Kashmir and two from Jammu, lost their lives due to COVID-19 during the first five days of this week.
Official sources said that a 48-year-old woman, a resident of Kantbagh in Baramulla, was admitted to S K Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) on Wednesday for pneumonia and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). “The patient, who tested positive for COVID-19, died at the hospital at around 0930 hrs on Saturday.
They said a 75-year-old man, a resident of Rawalpora in Srinagar, suffered a massive heart attack in the morning and died at SKIMS. “The CVOID-19 positive patient was admitted to the hospital for pneumonia and ARDS,” they said.
Another Srinagar resident, a 70-year-old man from Peerbagh, was admitted to SKIMS on Monday for respiratory problem. “The patient, who tested positive for COVID-19, died at the hospital in the morning,” they said.
They said a 70-year-old woman, a resident of Safa Kadal in Srinagar, died at SMHS hospital early in the morning. “The patient had tested positive for COVID-19 and was also suffering from respiratory problem,” they added.
They said three more persons, including a resident from Srinagar, Budgam and Bandipora, died later in the evening on Saturday.
Meanwhile, two COVID-19 positive patients — a shopkeeper from Satwari in Jammu and 60-year-old woman from Ganderbal — died late in the evening on Friday. “The shopkeeper died at Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu while the Ganderbal resident died at SKIMS,” they said.
With these fatalities, the death toll due to COVID-19 has risen to 86 in Srinagar which is the worst affected district in J&K in terms of causalities, followed by Baramulla with 63 deaths. The death toll in Anantnag and Budgam stands at 21 each while 20 people each have lost their lives to the disease in Shopian.
The number of deaths stands at 26 in Kulgam. Sixteen people each have lost their lives in Kupwara and Pulwama while eight deaths occurred in Bandipora. Ganderbal district recorded sixth death due to COVID-19 on Friday.
Ten districts of Jammu have reported 22 fatalities while 283 people have lost their lived due to COVID-19 in ten districts of Kashmir.
As many as 48 patients — including 10 persons from Baramulla, 12 from Srinagar, six from Kulgam, three from Anantnag, Kupwara and Budgam, Jammu region, two each from Shopian and Ganderbal, one patient each from Pulwama, Bandipora and a BSF jawan — died due to COVID-19 between July 6 and July 12.
As many as 41 people — including nine from Srinagar, 10 from Baramulla, five each from Anantnag, three from Kulgam, Budgam and Shopian, two each from Kupwara and Bandipora, one each from Jammu and Ganderbal — died due to COVID-19 between June 29 and July 5.
