Continuing the drive to provide better development as well as Civic amenities to the people of Jammu, Sh. Chander Mohan Gupta Mayor alongwith Advocate Purnima Sharma Deputy Mayor Jammu Municipal Corporation today on 24.06.2020 conducted an extensive tour in the areas of General Bus Stand and its adjoining localities and took stock the ongoing construction work of Nallah flowing through this area. Madam Anju Dogra State BJP Secretary, Sh. Kuldeep kandhari BJP Jammu Distt General Secretary, Sh. Parveen Kerni Jammu East Mandal President, Sh. Ashwani Seth Executive Engineer (UEED) alongwith his team, concerned Contractors and representatives of General Bus stand and BC Road Shopkeepers association were also present there during the tour. The shopkeepers put forth their various issues as well as maintaining proper sanitation, early completion work of Nallah, removal of encroachments, traffic problems infront of the Hon’ble Mayor & Hon’ble Deputy Mayor.
Mayor told that this particular Nallah is being constructed by the Sewerage & Drainage Department from Bus Stand upto Jewel Chowk at the estimate cost of Rs. 5.97 Crore. It will be properly covered with cemented slab, also having Green Walk Way of about 2.5 ft breadth over the Nallah for the pedestrians to walk freely in the already congested area.
Mayor further told that Jammu Municipal Corporation has already taken up the job of constructing / renovation of different Nallahas through AMURT, languish projects with an amount of Rs. 200/- Crores as well as simultaneously started the thorough disilting of existing Nallahas of Jammu City since Feb 2020 to avoid any type of blockages and over flowing of these Nallahas during rainy seasons as locals who resides near the both sides of Nallahas have been facing great hardships due to entering of dirty water into their houses in every rainy season which destroys all their household articles as well as facing various health problems due to emitting of foul smell & silt/garbage which remained scattered near their localities.
Mayor & Deputy Mayor directed the concerned engineering wing to complete the ongoing construction work on this nallah as well as other ones within stipulated time period upto the satisfaction of locals with quality work & materials, also plant more and more saplings on the both sides of nallahas after their completion where sufficient space is available to avoid any types of encroachment and which will also provide eco-friendly environment in the surrounding localities and they further appeal to the General Public not to throw polythenes, garbage, filth, silt etc in the Nallahas and public drains of the city which creates stagnation of water & also which becomes breeding place for mosquitoes and creates unhygienic conditions in their whole locality, come forward and cooperate with Jammu Municipal Corporation in various development projects to make Jammu neat, clean and green city.
Locals also appreciated both the Mayor & Deputy Mayor for visiting their areas, listened to their problems with patience and major initiatives being taken by Jammu Municipal Corporation under their able guidelines & control such as installation of LED Street Lights, Disilting of Nallahas & resolving other issues of the General public from the last one & half year as soon as the elected representatives of Jammu Municipal Corporation has come into power.
