Three drug peddlers were booked under Public Safety Act (PSA) and arrested four more in the Kashmir valley, a police spokesman said on Monday evening.
He said continuing its action against drug dealings, Police in a series of actions have arrested four drug peddlers in Awantipora and Bandipora. Contraband substances were also recovered from their possession. Besides, Srinagar Police have booked three notorious drug peddlers under Public Safety Act.
In Awantipora, police establised checkpoint ear Mokhdam Mohalla Tral and intercepted two persons who were riding on a motorcycle. They have been identified as Waseem Ahmad Ganie and Shahid Ahmad Wani both residents of Yangwani Aripal. During checking police has been able to recover 350 grams of Charas from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to Police Station Tral where they remain in custody. The Motorcycle used in the commission of crime has also been seized. Accordingly, case FIR No 50/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Tral and further investigation into the matter has been initiated.
In Bandipora, Officers have arrested two drug peddlers for drug related offences identified as Mohammadd Arif Wani resident of Plan Bandipora and Shamus-ud-Din resident of Naz Colony Bandipora and recovered 1800 capsules of psychotropic drug Spasmoproxyvon from the residential house of Mohd Arif Wani. They have been shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Case FIR No.56/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Bandipora and further investigation into the matter has been initiated.
Similarly, Srinagar Police have booked three notorious drug peddlers under Public Safety Act. Officers had earlier seized contraband substances from their possession and cases under relevant sections of law already stands registered against them. Accordingly the cases were duly processed and the arrested drug peddlers were booked under Public Safety Act after obtaining sanctions from the concerned authorities.
They have been identified as Nisar Ahmad Shiekh resident of Sheikh Colony Kani Dewar Hawal Srinagar, Bashir Ahmad Bhat resident of Barbarshah Srinagar and Rayees Ahmad Hakak resident of Gulbarg Colony Zakoora. Among them Nisar Ahmad Shiekh and Bashir Ahmad Bhat have been lodged in District Jail Baramulla while as Rayees Ahmad has been lodged in District Jail Kupwara.
It is pertinent to mention here that, Srinagar Police have arrested 53 drug peddlers during the current year who were involved in different drug peddling offences.
Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace as reiterated in our community meetings
