128 new COVID-19 cases in J&K, tally mounts to 2164

As many as 128 persons, including 92 from Kashmir and 36 from Jammu, were tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, taking the total number of infected people in the Union Territory of J&K to 2164.

Of the 128 new positive cases, 94, including 27 from Srinagar, are people, who have recently returned from outside J&K.

Meanwhile, the death toll in J&K rose to 28 with the death of a 70-year-old man from Shopian due to COVID-19 in Kashmir valley, where 16 positive patients were discharged from hospitals after being treated successfully.

An official on Friday said that 92 more people tested positive for Coronavirus in Kashmir division while 36 new cases were reported from Jammu. “Srinagar recorded the highest number of 27 new COVID-19 cases followed by Kulgam with 19 cases,” he said, adding 18 persons tested positive for the infection in Kupwara.

“Pulwama registered 13 new COVID-19 cases,” he said, adding Poonch recorded 14 and Baramulla eight new cases.

He said six persons each tested positive in Anantnag, Kathua and Rajouri. “Samba recorded two new positive cases while one person each tested positive in Shopian and Udhampur,” he added.

With 128 new cases, he said the total number of infected persons in J&K has risen to 2164. “Out of these, 1728 are in Kashmir and 436 are in Jammu,” he said.

He said the total active positive cases in the UT stand at 1261, including 929 from Kashmir and 332 from Jammu.

He said 16 COVID-19 patients from J&K were discharged on Friday after being treated successfully. “As many as 875 positive patients were treated and discharged successfully so far,” he said.

Ten districts of Jammu have reported three fatalities while 25 people have lost their lived due to COVID-19 in ten districts of Kashmir.

This is the first death due to COVID-19 reported in Shopian. Srinagar is the worst affected district in terms of mortality rate with seven deaths due to the infection. Anantnag and Baramulla stands at number two with five deaths each while Kulgam is number three with four deaths.
