District Level Coordination Committee reviews implementation of NTCP in Samba District

A meeting of the District Level Coordination Committee for National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) was held today here at the Meeting Hall of the DC Office Complex Samba. Deputy Commissioner Ayushi Sudan chaired the meeting.

 

At the outset, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) briefed the meeting regarding the objectives of the National Tobacco Control Programme and the activities being undertaken in the district.

 

The Committee reviewed the Action Taken Report (ATR) on the previous decisions. The DC called for strict enforcement of COTPA provisions, including ban on smoking at the public places. She asked enforcement departments to penalize the violators. She further emphasized achieving the targets related to declaration of Tobacco-Free Villages in the district

 

Earlier, the Divisional Coordinator delivered a detailed PowerPoint presentation, highlighting various components of the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) and provisions of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003. The presentation covered enforcement provisions related to prohibition of smoking in public places, ban on sale of tobacco products near educational institutions, prohibition of sale to minors and awareness activities being conducted in the district.
