The Jammu and Kashmir Government should have understood by now that the working culture in the region before August 5, 2019 was so dismal that files used to move in the government offices at the sweet will of the delinquent officials and there was no place for the common man to report the matter for redressal of issues. Though after the transformation of erstwhile J&K State into the Union Territory, things have improved a lot but still the innate characteristics in the employees fraternity is present and they leave no chance to revert back to the same mannerism of lethargy and stubbornness. The startling example of the aforesaid condition has been observed recently in Ganderbal District where the district level officers took the undue liberty to play truancy during the Block Diwas on every Wednesday and invited the wrath of the UT administration as they got the ultimatum and strict warning to mend their ways as soon as possible or else strict action under law will be initiated. It is pertinent to mention that the Block Diwas is organized every Wednesday for speedy disposal of the grievances of the general public across the district. Due to the absence of district level officers the objective of resolving the grievances, complaints and issues is not being fulfilled and the purpose of conducting Block Diwas has lost its essence. This is simply not done and the concern shown by the administration in this context is fully justified.
Giving one more chance the concerned quarters in the administration have directed all the district level officers of Ganderbal to be present in person in the Block Diwas Programme held on every Wednesday of the week. As the scenario in this case has been deteriorated therefore the LG Manoj Sinha’s administration should take care of all other districts also to ensure that such cases do not repeat as the same marred the very purpose of the government’s farsighted move of holding Block Diwas and other similar endeavours. Those officials responsible for such delinquencies should be identified and taken to task because J&K is a very sensitive Union Territory and it cannot afford such careless officials who have no respect towards their duty and accountability.
