SECURITY TOP ON AGENDA
Looking into the deteriorating security scenario in J&K due to increase in terrorist activities especially in Jammu region the decision taken by the government to brace up security is imperative and will go a long way in curbing the terrorism sponsored by rogue nation Pakistan as gaps along LoC are being used to help terror mongers to infiltrate to this side and wreak havoc as in the case of Dhangri attacks in which six people had lost their precious lives and several others got injured and are struggling to get well again. In swift decisions taken to overcome the situation arising out of terror strike in Rajouri on day one of the new year 2023, the centre has rushed 18 companies of paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to the twin border districts–Rajouri and Poonch, and is mulling to set up more Village Defence Committees (VDCs) and equip them with either SLR or Insas guns instead of present .303 rifles which are now out of vogue. It is pertinent to mention that the Jammu and Kashmir Government and the Union Ministry of Home Affairs have come up with a series of measures to ensure protection of minorities in twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch in the wake of killings of six civilians including two minors in twin terror strikes at Upper Dhangri Village in Rajouri District. the aforesaid additional companies of CRPF comprising 1800 personnel shall be deployed in minority-dominated villages and coordinate in search operations to track down the terrorists responsible for the ghastly terror attack. Besides, the government has come up with the decision to establish pickets of Army, paramilitary forces and Jammu and Kashmir Police, or joint, in sensitive villages comprising minorities as dwellers. Increasing night patrolling is also being mulled in many areas by security and police personnel in both Rajouri and Poonch districts, leading to more safety of the people which are currently reeling under fear psychosis as the new year terror strike has frightened people badly. Another vital move which the government has envisaged following the terror strike in Rajouri is to identify villages in twin border districts where new VDCs are required to be constituted. This will be in addition to revamping of the existing VDCs to ensure security by these committees meant for the safety of the villagers in the rural hamlets.
