The situation with regard to drone threat has become really alarming because every now and then these unmanned aerial vehicles are being spotted in borders along J&K and Punjab and in many cases these flying objects have dropped arms and ammunition, and drug consignments in the Indian territory before going back safely to Pakistan. It has been said several times that the anti-drone systems have been installed at the vital and strategic spots but still the menace is not being controlled the way it should be as lately many instances have come to fore wherein these flying machines have dropped the illegal consignments with impunity because as per the version of security forces the drones from Pakistani side have made nearly 200 sorties towards this side to unleash reign of terror in an entirely new way. The spike in drone movement at borders has raised major internal security concerns and therefore the home ministry has asked security forces to be on high alert after the spike in drone activity. Though many drones have been targeted by the security forces, the menace has crossed the limits and there is a need to take this issue to the highest level and bring in desired changes in the security grid so that the chance of drones entering India from Pakistani or Chinese sides comes down to zero. In this context, a suspected drone has been detected near Jammu airport prompting security agencies to sound an alert in the city. Although the flying object disappeared, it has raised the security concerns as this is not the first time that drones from Pakistan have reached so close to the aerodrome as in June last year, the twin drones had dropped two low intensity IEDs after entering the border from the Pakistani side. This makes it very important to be on toes as the airport in Jammu is quite significant as far as defence capabilities are concerned. All said and done, the government has to go for automatic surveillance and attack systems along borders as it has been seen that manual checks have their own limitations allowing the adversary to take undue benefit.
