Chief Medical Officer Srinagar has sealed the operation theater of Ramjana Hospital, a private hospital located at Gogaji Bagh. The CMO has taken this step only after the death of two patients and their relatives during surgery one after the other in the hospital due to alleged medical negligence. Not only this, orders have also been given to investigate the matter. The surgical procedures in the hospital will be closed till the investigation process is completed.
Keeping in view the allegations made by the family members of the woman who died due to alleged medical negligence of doctors at Ramjana Hospital, Gogaji Bagh, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Srinagar was directed to take necessary action immediately, officials said. Health Services Director Kashmir Dr Mushtaq Ahmed Rather said that the CMO Srinagar was directed to take action only after the matter came to our notice. Till now we have sealed the operation theater apart from blocking the conduct of all surgical procedures in the hospital.
Apart from closing the operation theatre, the CMO has also formed a panel to investigate the matter and find out the facts of the allegations against the doctors of the hospital. The CMO said that such cases related to the death of people are serious. No one will be allowed to take it lightly.
Director Health said that we wanted to seal the entire hospital, but keeping in mind the patients admitted there, we decided to seal only the operation theater. The panel probing the matter has been asked to file its report within a week. He made it clear that if any negligence is found in the investigation, then strict action will be taken against those found guilty.
Let us tell you that the first case of death due to alleged medical negligence was reported on August 25 at Ramzan Hospital. A woman from Theed Harwan area of Srinagar had died due to alleged medical negligence. The woman was to give birth to a child. The doctors of the hospital tried to cover up the matter. He claimed that every effort was made to save the woman and her child. But the family continued their protest against the hospital management.
The health department did not take any action even after protests by the family members. Now on September 9, once again another case of alleged medical negligence comes to the fore in the same hospital. This time another woman Shafia, a resident of Naik Bagh in Nowgam, also dies due to alleged medical negligence. The family members protested against this negligence. In which a large number of common people also joined and forced the health department to take action.
